ABOUT US
Introduction
The Atal Satellite Competition (ASC) is the first school-level satellite design and development competition
in India. It is organized under the aegis of India Space Week, as part of its broader mission to promote
space science education and technological innovation at the grassroots level.
ASC is designed for students from Grade 6 to Grade 12, giving them a unique opportunity to explore the world
of space technology through hands-on experience. The competition encourages students to work in teams,
guided by a teacher mentor, to design and build a satellite the size of a soft drink can. This satellite is
expected to collect data from the atmosphere and transmit it to a ground station during its descent from a
height of 200 m.
The program supports the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes practical
learning, creativity, and early exposure to emerging fields such as space science and engineering. By
participating in ASC, students gain valuable experience in teamwork, problem-solving, and applying
scientific principles to real-world challenges.
India’s space industry is growing rapidly, with increasing global recognition for its achievements in
satellite launches, planetary missions, and space research. ASC aims to inspire young minds to become future
contributors to this expanding sector by introducing them to the basics of aerospace engineering and
satellite technology at an early stage.
To ensure a meaningful learning experience, ASC includes multiple stages of evaluation such as design
reviews and technical assessments. Students also receive mentorship and guidance from experts throughout the
competition. In addition, a training program is conducted to help students understand the engineering
process and technologies involved in building a satellite.
Through this initiative, ASC seeks to build awareness, spark curiosity, and develop foundational skills in
space science among school students across India.
